15 June 2010 - When Repetition is of No Use

2 months back, I was a newbie in the Sales industries. I took half the month learning to do sales, picking up little skills in selling notebooks and netbooks. I had colleagues teaching me patiently how to go about doing sales.

I felt fortunate. of course, I spent a lot of effort reading general information about the current IT knowledge so that I know what I'm selling. my in-charge is proud of me, and that he is confident that I would be able to cope well alone. afterall they taught me a lot, and I picked up most of the stuffs fast. they helped me close deals whenever I was a little bit lost, until I started to get used to it.
I was on my own after 2 to 4 weeks and I achieved my target the following month. I felt exuberant, because that calls for more money, and proved that they taught me well, in addition to my own effort that I put in so much for.

few weeks back, another newbie came into the showroom, a female. she had zero knowledge about everything, we had to teach her, just like how I was taught. I told myself that it is my duty that I should teach her everything I know step by step, and thats where things started to get offhand.

until now, she has difficulty doing sales. I didn't know where the problem was, but it got me very frustrated. we have a cost book there, and basically its there for a reason. but apparently she did not use that important cost book often, thus she can't do her sales well, because she either quote the price wrongly or did not explain the specs in detail. almost all of her sales had to be closed with the help from colleagues even until now, as though we are the ones doing the sales from the very beginning.

I almost flared up in the morning, when a customer came looking for a specific laptop. he agreed to buy like almost immediately after she served him for just a minute or two. I was busy doing my stuffs, but could sense there was something wrong. typical customers wouldn't agree to buy a notebook that readily, so I went to asked her what that guy was looking for. she referred to the cost book, but she quoted the cost price instead of the selling price. what more can I say? I couldn't figure out why she could make such a huge blunder when everything was printed there so nicely for reference.

the rest are busy with their after-PC-show stuffs, and I'm the only one who can teach her right now. but time and again I said the same thing over and over again, she couldn't put her mind into listening. I started pondering whether its my fault, for not teaching her well or was it because she is much slower, or perhaps unable to follow instructions too well.

I'm at a loss whether I should continue teaching her, or just let her learn everything by herself, or probably see if anyone else would teach her. I see no point in teaching someone who can't learn after repeating the same thing over again, especially if its something so simple and have no complicating equations or sorts involved. maybe I should stop afterall, even if it means playing a role of an ass.
